Keeping Warm and Cool

Temperature control is crucial for guinea pigs, as they are sensitive to extreme temperatures. These small animals are prone to heatstroke in hot weather and can suffer from hypothermia in cold conditions.

Ideal temperatures for guinea pigs range between 18-24°C (65-75°F). Prolonged exposure to temperatures outside this range can lead to serious health issues or even death. Therefore, it's essential to provide a stable and comfortable environment, avoiding direct sunlight, drafts, and sudden temperature changes to ensure their well-being.

To keep  in mind, if you're rushing to get into air conditioning or needing some extra layers because you're chilly, your guinea pigs will be needing that too!

Keeping Cool in Hot Weather

The most important factor to remember in summer is to provide your piggies with plenty of cool fresh water! Always ensure water bottles are filled, water is fresh and not warm, and supply extra water bottles if you have multiple guinea pigs.

Keeping Warm in Cold Weather

With the onset of winter, it is important to take precautions to ensure your guinea pig is kept warm. Indoor housing offers a warmer, protected and sheltered environment. It has the benefit of using electrical appliances, human monitoring is closer to hand, pests and predators are not an issue as it offers a hidden, secure area with other valuables, and your cage is not seen as an easy target.
