Senior guinea pigs generally require a lower-calorie diet as they age and expend less energy. The below feeding guide is generally applicable to most senior animals; however, veterinary advice should be sought on feeding quantities if your senior guinea pig experiences problems maintaining weight rather than keeping it off. In these cases, unlimited access to both pellets and hay may be applicable.

General feeding directions for most senior guinea pigs: 20% Pellets, 75% Lucerne Hay, 5% Treats.
